What is it?
This house is built with much love and craftsmanship from a ruin to a comfortable self-sufficient house. The house is built of mainly natural materials. Roof, floors and windows are made of wood, the walls are made of slate. The house consists of a large kitchen, a bedroom, a living room and a bathroom. Above a part of the kitchen is a loft; the access to the bathroom is along a covered patio. By extern stairs there is access to a small attic. The living area of this floor is approximately 122 m2. A second apartment is built at the basement underneath a part of the house. It is consisting of a kitchen, living room and bedroom and shower. The bathroom of this apartment is also accessible via a patio. The living area of both floors together is approximately 170 m2.

How about the facilities?
The roof is insulated and the windows are double glazed. The house is self-sufficient. It has its own water from a stream with clean water and electricity is obtained via solar panels. Wood is used for the central heating, and a solar heater provides hot water.

Any outdoor space?
The house is situated on a plot of approximately 1 hectare that partly consists of terraces. Deciduous trees and some fruit trees grow on these terraces. The terrace walls are made of slate.

The natural architecture, the self-sufficient aspect and the location in the so-called Happy Valley make this quinta unique in its kind. The valley is known for its ecological and alternative lifestyle. In the valley is now a common playground for the children and there is also an alternative school.
The quinta adjoins a clear brook (always water); about one kilometer upstream its water splashes down in an impressive waterfall (Fraga da Pena). At the quinta is another small waterfall. The national forest Mata da Margaraça is close by. The area is known for its walking opportunities.

Where is it?
The quinta lies between the two villages Pardieiros and Benfeita (1-2 km) and is accessible via a paved road. In the immediate vicinity are some small amenities such as a community center, cafe and church. A larger village with amenities is Côja 10 km away, where a cozy authentic atmosphere prevails. Most facilities are present on a small scale such as a bank, post office, grocery and hardware store etc. There are also a river beach, a campsite and several restaurants. At a distance of about 15 km is Arganil. This small provincial town has all important facilities such as restaurants, shops, supermarkets, post office, banks, medical practice, schools, library and weekly market. The larger city of Coimbra is about 70 km away.
