Residing in Portugal. Terra dos Rios searches for and finds homes in the wider area of the city of Tábua. This region, adjacent to the mountains of the Serra da Estrela, is green, mountainous and friendly.
There are two major cities in this area: Viseu and Coimbra as well as numerous smaller cities, towns and villages. The Rio Mondego, Rio Dão and Rio Alva rivers are clean, wide and are all running through the area.
The IP3, IP6, IC12 and N17 are the major roads that give access to the area.
There are more reasons than pure accessibility why this region is attractive to purchase a (second) home. De Beira interior has a lovely climate, which does not even get too hot in summer time. Most months of the year it is green (it rains a bit more often than in the south) and comfortable. The mountainous landscape is lovely in contrast to the bushy Serra da Estrela.
In the cities, you will see modern Portugal. In the rural area of Beiras, it looks as if time stood still. If you are looking to slow down a bit or searching for (holiday) neighbours with time for a chat, and you have no trouble with reliable, but infrequent public transport, you will find what you are looking for right here. This interior region is not so poor as northern Trás os Montes. Only a few people have left this region to try their luck abroad or in the cities. Children are still being born in the small villages and more cafés are opened.
Residents take care of their land in the area (and once you get to know them, they will share their returns with you), feed their animals, and …., park their vehicles. Because (luckily) there is also progress visible in the Beiras.
Portugal has various regions with various characteristics. The Dutch are most familiar with the Algarve in the south, with warm summers, beaches and tourism. In the south, you will find the hot, dry Alentejo, with the Évora and Beja cities. Towards the north, you will find the Trás os Montes mountains, bushy and dry, and the green Dourodal with many, many vineyards. Beira Interior is situated towards the centre; not too hot, not too cold, close to Spain, and not too far from the sea as well, and last but not least: the region is still “undiscovered”, so real estate is still reasonably priced.
